Our Employees In Action

Community Outreach

FCH believes in the importance of being a part of the communities they do business in. By making our communities stronger, we strengthen our employee and customer base bringing results that are much more than smart fiscal decisions.

Below are a few select examples of our hotels giving back to their respective communities.

Focused Service Contributions

Hampton Inn & Suites Gainesville, FL

•  For years, the Hampton Inn Gainesville has been the biggest contributor to Alexa’s Closet, a program which provides nurses with a closet full of crafts they use to make playful, lasting memories for the families of babies born into the UF Health Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU. The joy and morale boost created by these crafts are vital to families who are going through very difficult situations. Alexa’s Closet also provides a stocked toy box for the siblings in the NICU waiting area and stocks the Pediatric unit with crafts for their art room. In addition, the hotel staff provides a surprise Christmas dinner to the entire NICU team.

Alexa’s Closet takes its name from the granddaughter of the Hampton Inn’s General Manager, Susan Perkins. Alexa is a NICU survivor who spent an amazing 108 days in the hospital, and she was the March of Dimes National Ambassador 2006.

•  The management team at the Hampton Inn also provides regular support to the ProStart Culinary program at Eastside High School in Gainesville, preparing students to succeed in foodservice and lodging positions by giving them school-to-career training. By participating in resume building, mock interviews and working through one-on-one scenarios the Hampton staff pass on practical knowledge to young people eager to break into the hospitality industry. A few students have even interned at the hotel, gaining valuable experience alongside our breakfast staff.

In February 2015, Eastside High School competed in a statewide ProStart competition and showed their caliber by placing 2nd out of 49 schools.

•  As members of the Alachua County Hospital Council, the Hampton Inn Gainesville annually participates in an event called the Amazing Race which helps raise funds for local charities. The hotel staff loves participating in the fun, frenetic events while giving back to their community.

•  Finally, giving back starts with taking care of the Hampton family. The Hampton Inn Gainesville hosts a back-to-school ice cream party in which school-age children of employees receive all of the necessary supplies they need when returning to class.

Hampton Inn Rochester, MN

•  Each year the employees of the Hampton Inn, Rochester donate their time and supplies to feed families at The Hope Lodge. These families are in town while loved ones battle health issues at the Mayo Clinic. Hospitality along with a hot meal goes a long way.

•  The MS Society is a cause near and dear to the employees at the Hampton, Rochester as Lisa Taylor, an 18 year employee of the hotel, is afflicted with the disease. Each year the hotel team walks together to show their support and raise money for this great cause.

•  During the school year, members of the Hampton Inn Rochester staff volunteer at Autumn Ridge Church to put together backpacks full of food for families in need. The church puts together over 45 backpacks/week to send home with children throughout the Rochester School District to ensure they have food over the weekend.

Hampton Inn & Suites Tomball, TX

Besides participating in Hilton’s Month of Service Initiative, the hotel works with the community by working with the graduated special needs students of Tomball High School. Students come to the property Monday through Friday for a couple of hours and work alongside the staff to gain valuable work experience. The staff and the kids enjoy working together, and it benefits the kids tremendously.

Hampton Inn St. Charles, MO

Recently, the team in St. Charles decided that their focus for philanthropy would be organizations that help children. The hotel participates in the “Jeans for St. Jude’s” whereby employees could donate a few dollars and wear denim jeans on targeted days. Additionally, customer Thanksgiving cards were purchased that help support the St. Louis Children’s hospital and employees donate time to volunteer at 5K runs for charitable organizations like Cystic Fibrosis. Finally, the hotel also participates annually in the Hilton Month of Service initiative.

Holiday Inn Express Fargo West Acres and Fargo I-94

The two Holiday Inn Express hotels in Fargo participate in many of the same programs as the Holiday Inn of Fargo including the golf tournament for Ronald McDonald House United Way Day of Giving, First Link’s Giving Tree of Hope and silent auction donations for local charity gala events. Additionally the employees volunteer their time at the GlobeTrotter game which benefits the Humane Society.

Full Service Contributions

In December, each manager purchases a toy to contribute to the annual College Park CVB Toy Drive.

Holiday Inn Austin Midtown

•  Ronald McDonald House is a charity near and dear to the employees of the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown. Each year they hold a Halloween customer appreciation event that raises money for the charity. Additionally, they offer a discounted rate as well as taking cookies to their reception desk on a periodic basis. Finally, the hotel participates in “Jeans for a Cause” whereby an employee will be allowed to wear denim jeans with a $5.00 donation with all proceeds going directly to Ronald McDonald House.

•  The hotel has also partnered with the American Cancer Society by donating complimentary guestrooms when available to patients that are coming in to St. David’s or Seton Hospital for their chemotherapy appointments.

The office picks two names off of the tree and purchases the wish items.

•  4 luv of Dogs Rescue is an area no kill shelter ran entirely by volunteers. The Holiday Inn Fargo has held a supply drive and donated several items for the dogs in the rescue.

•  The hotel employees purchase toys, gifts, movies, etc. to be given to the children’s floors of area hospitals (Sandford and Essentia) the local hospitals gift the items to patients and families in need or use the gifts is their entertainment rooms.

•  The hotel also participated in the Global Soap Project: the leading causes of death for children in developing countries are hygiene-related illnesses, which claim more than 1.8 million lives each year. That’s nearly one-third of all child deaths. Handwashing with soap is the single most effective way to prevent those deaths. The Global Soap project works to improve global health in a measurable and sustainable way, one bar of soap at a time. Our partner, Clean The World, receives partially-used and discarded soap from hotels, recycles it into millions of new bars, and then Global Soap strategically distributes the new soap to people who lack access to it around the world. The housekeeping department leads the efforts on recycling used bars of soap.

•  Finally, the Holiday Inn Fargo also provides free desserts, reduced room rentals, purchases tables for many local charities that hold events at the hotel as well as donates multiple items to silent auctions to help raise funds and keep costs down for annual galas.
